Comment on Movies on AS!

Seeing a movie this week? Comment on the movies you’ve seen and even introduce new movies we  haven’t heard of in AS!

This Week’s Movies

“Life As We Know It” with Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel.  Katherine and Josh wind up becoming instant parents when their mutual friends die and leaves their kid with them. This sounds like a plot to a damn 80’s or 90’s tv sitcom. Heigl could make this work, but so far, she’s peaked at “Knocked Up” and “27 Dresses.”

“Secretariat” A story about a racehorse. With Diane Lane.

“My Soul To Take” Shit! Another cheap horror movie, this time with a serial killer taking out kids on their birthday. From horror king Wes Craven.

“Stone” With Edward Norton as an arsonist who uses his wife to bonk the parole officer to be freed from prison.

All and all, a lame week at the movies, at least for the new!

Two Movies: Your Take

I am interested in your opinions about two new movies that are out in theaters this weekend. “The Social Network” appears to be a huge new movie, at least with critics. It got a 97% in Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s to early to see whether or not this was a smash. Even if it is a movie about a  certain very heavily used social networking site.

Another movie I would like your opinions on is the recently released “I’m Still Here” with Joaquin Phoenix quitting his successful acting career to be a hip hop star. A limited run film that got little attention. I wouldn’t have known about it myself if not for a friend cluing  me in on it. If you have seen any of these flicks, comment about it here.

Box Office Stats

“Wall Street:Money Never Sleeps” topped the US box office making $19 million this weekend. (personal review: this movie is better than the original! Go see it!) Following behind is “Legend of the Guardians “at  No. 2. Here’s the ranks….

2. “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”

3. “The Town”

4. “Easy A”

5. “You Again”

6. “Devil”

7. “Resident Evil: Afterlife”

8. “Alpha and Omega”

9. “Takers”

10. “Inception”

“The Breakfast Club” turns 25!

Have you forgotten about “The Breakfast Club”?

After 25 years, many who have seen this movie saw their high school years played out to them in stunningly honest ways: the insecurities, the competitiveness, the angst, and other emotions that affect the average teen.

The original stars of the film, Molly Ringwald (Claire the princess), Anthony Michael Hall (Brian the Brain), Judd Nelson (John The Punk) and Ally Sheedy (Alison the basketcase) paid tribute to the John Hughes film they took part in recently in New York. Emilio Estevez (Anthony the jock) did not attend. Paul Gleason, who played the bullying school principal who herds them all in detention, died in 2006.

In an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, the actors recalled the cultural impact of this film.

Box Office Report

“The Town” took over the top slot in the US box office with a $23.8 million haul. The comedy “Easy A” came in second place. The thriller “Devil” landed third. “Resident Evil: Afterlife” and “Alpha Omega” followed close behind. It’s worth noting that “The Other Guys” is still in the top ten as it has been since Aug 6, with $112 in the bank so far.
